Staccatos – Worth It?

Staccatos: Luxury pistol or real advantage? Here’s what you need to know.

By The Director of Training – C2 Tactical

If you’ve been around the range lately, you’ve probably noticed more shooters showing up with Staccato pistols. These 2011 handguns are sleek, smooth, and carry a price tag that makes people stop and ask the question we hear all the time at C2 Tactical:

“Are Staccatos really worth it?”

What Makes a Staccato Different?

A Staccato 2011 pistol is essentially a modern, double-stack version of the classic 1911. That means you get:

  • A crisp, competition-grade trigger.
  • Excellent weight and balance that help manage recoil.
  • Match-fit barrels for accuracy you can actually see on target.
  • Optics-ready slides for today’s red-dot setups.

Put simply, a Staccato makes shooting smoother, faster, and more fun.

The Upside

Confidence Builder – Many shooters find they instantly perform better with a Staccato. The gun rewards good fundamentals and helps clean up sloppy technique.

Proven Reliability – This isn’t just a flashy competition gun. The Staccato P and Staccato C2 have been adopted by law enforcement agencies nationwide, including Phoenix SWAT (SAU). At C2 Tactical, we actually helped run the testing and evaluation that got them approved. If an elite tactical team trusts it as their duty gun, you can trust it at the range or for home defense.

Fun Factor – At the end of the day, shooting a Staccato is just fun. Less recoil, faster follow-ups, and tighter groups mean more smiles per magazine.

The Tradeoffs

Performance has a couple of strings attached:

  1. Price – Most Staccatos start around $2,500 and can climb past $5,000. That’s a big leap from a Glock or Smith & Wesson M&P.
  2. Maintenance – These pistols are more reliable than older 2011s, but they still like regular cleaning and lubrication. Think sports car vs. commuter car—both will run, but one likes a little more TLC.

So, Are They Worth It?

It depends on who you are.

  • For serious shooters, competitors, or professionals – Yes. The Staccato’s accuracy, speed, and reliability absolutely justify the price.
  • For casual shooters or new gun owners – Probably not. A Glock or M&P will do the job for a fraction of the cost.

The Porsche vs. Toyota comparison fits here: both will get you where you need to go. The difference is how much fun you have getting there.
